Heroic

We begin our program by welcoming the artistry of Cedric Berry, bass-baritone, who will perform some of opera’s greatest arias from Don Giovanni, Macbeth, Carmen and Faust.

We then turn to the Beethoven of revolutionary, groundbreaking statements with his mighty Eroica (Heroic) Symphony, possibly the most important symphony ever written. Beethoven originally dedicated the piece to Napoleon Bonaparte, and the music took its inspiration from the seeds of revolution. But after Napoleon crowned himself Emperor, Beethoven became disillusioned and scratched out the dedication. His symphony, however, remains a groundbreaking and heroic work that helped define the romantic era. Hear this energetic and powerful work performed live by Santa Cecilia Orchestra.
