Trinity Lutheran Church hosts three concert series:

  • The Main Concert Series, Sundays at 4:00 p.m.,
     
  • The noontime "Bach's Lunch Recitals" at 12:15 p.m. on first Fridays from September or October through June, and
     
  • "The Previews" at 2:00 p.m. on third or fourth Saturdays from September through June (except December). From January through June, the concerts are repeated the next day on Beverly Hills' "Music In The Mansion" recital series in the the historic Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion.

The members of the California String Quartet, the newest international-class ensemble based in Los Angeles, are four of the finest string players in the area, coming from the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (Katia, Armen, and Victoria) and the concertmaster of Opera Santa Barbara (Andrew).

11th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORGAN DEDICATION

Samuel Soria
SAMUEL S. SORIA organ

Samuel Soria was appointed organist of the new Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Los Angeles, in May of 2002 after a similar position of nine years at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. He is a graduate of Valparaiso University and Northwestern Universities. In addition to academic study with Philip Gehring and Wolfgang Rubsam, he has coached privately with Jean Guillou, Naji Hakim and Paul Manz. He was a prize-winner in the 1996 AGO National Competition in Organ Improvisation and was a semi-finalist in the same competition in 1992, as well as the 1985 National Organ Playing Competition in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He won 2nd place in the J.S. Bach International Competition in 1993 at the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. In 1995, he participated in the European Competition in Organ Improvisation, Knokke-Heist, Belgium, the first American to be invited to this competition.

For the past eighteen years, Karla Devine has been Organist and Director of Children's Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach. She did her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland, and at the University of Minnesota.

Three musicians from varied international backgrounds, Italian violinist Roberto Cani, 1st-Prize winner of the Paganini International Competition in Genoa, the Courcillon International Competition, and the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in Belgrade, Pianist Robert Thies, Gold-Medal winner of the International Prokofiev Competition, and cellist Cécilia Tsan, principal of the Long Beach Symphony and 1st-Prize winner for Cello and for Chamber Music at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, share their passion for chamber music and love for the culture of Europe and Italy in particular.

LORI STINSON soprano

A popular concert soloist in the Los Angeles area, American soprano Lori Stinson is a Western Region Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera auditions and a winner in the Richard Tucker Foundation awards. She has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, San Diego Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, South Bay Opera, and Utah Festival Opera, and sang the role of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at the Redlands Bowl.
