Free - Donations Appreciated Under the Artistic Direction of Laura Schmieder, talented rising young artists from Southern California and around the world are selected by audition and presented monthly in the intimate and acoustically superb sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church, Manhattan Beach. From January through June 2009 (except May), the concerts are repeated the next day on Beverly Hills' "Music In The Mansion" recital series in the historic Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion. Hailing from different backgrounds and yet of the same Korean nationality, Strada Trio members Hana Kim, Joy Song, and Young Yoo have Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Juilliard School. Individually they have participated in the Salzburg Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, Tanglewood, the Mozarteum Festival, Music Academy of the West, and the Taos Chamber Music Festival, and have given performances in New York City, Boston, London, Salzburg, Berlin, Seoul, and Los Angeles. Togther, they have performed three concerts in the Herbert Zipper Concert Hall of the Colburn School in Los Angeles. |

UCLA student Eun-Hye "Grace" Lee and USC Thornton student Jonathan Ong share a recital and will each perform solo selections. Then in a display of harmony between the two rival schools, Grace and Jonathan will perform a four-hands selection together. A native of Korea, Grace Lee is a sophomore at UCLA majoring in music/piano performance under Professor Walter Ponce. She won top prizes in the 2006 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, 2006 Glendale Piano Competition, 2006 MTAC Concerto Competition, which resulted in performing Mozart Concerto No. 21 in C Major with Glendale Youth Orchestra at the Alex Theater, 2006 Young Artist Competition sponsored by Friends of William Grant Still Arts Center, and the 2006 Southwestern Youth Music Festival, among numerous other awards and scholarships. A native of Australia, Jonathan Ong is studying on full scholarship for his Masters of Music at USC, majoring in piano performance under the tutelage of Professor Kevin Fitz-Gerald. He made his orchestral debut at the age of ten with the Sydney Youth Orchestra. In 2006, Jonathan was awarded a scholarship to attend the Banff International Keyboard Festival. Most recently he won the Torrance Symphony Young Artists Competition (2008). |

Julie Jung cello The Jung Trio - sisters Jennie, Ellen, and Julie - has established itself as one of today's notable rising young ensembles. Born and raised in Toronto, the trio has appeared in concerts across North America and around the world. Selected by YAI as debut artists 2007, the trio performed during the 10th iPalpiti Laureates Festival at Beverly Hills' Greystone Mansion and as part of iPalpiti at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2007 and 2008. The Jung Trio won the Grand Prize at the 2002 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition and the Bronze Medal at the 2002 Fischoff Competition. The Trio members hold degrees from the University of Toronto, New England Conservatory of Music, and Yale University School of Music, where all three received Artist Diplomas. Pianist Jennie Jung recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts at the Juilliard School. |

IRIS MALKIN mezzo-soprano Mezzo-soprano Iris Malkin graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music with a Master's Degrees in Vocal Performance and Piano, and was awarded the highly coveted America-Israel Cultural Foundation Study Scholarship. She performed under the baton of Pierre Boulez during the 2006 Lucerne Festival, including collaboration with Boulez' celebrated Ensemble Intercontemporain. Iris was recently featured as a guest artist on the Colburn School's Faculty Recital Series. Iris is joined by Pasadena City College faculty pianist Dr. Linda Zoolalian, who earned her Bachelor of Music from the New England of Conservatory and a Master's and Doctorate from USC's Thornton School of Music; and international prize-winning guitarist Edward Trybek, a protégé of renowned guitarist Scott Tennant at USC. |

YVES DHARAMRAJ cello A Winner of top prizes in the Ima Hogg, Klein, and Juilliard competitions, Franco-American cellist Yves Dharamraj has concerto appearances with the Houston Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and the Juilliard Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall, among others. He matriculated at Yale University where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, a Master of Music degree, and an Artist Diploma under the guidance of the renowned pedagogue Aldo Parisot. He now serves as Joel Krosnick's teaching assistant while continuing his doctoral studies at the Juilliard School. Pianist Jennie Jung of the Jung Trio hold degrees from the University of Toronto, New England Conservatory of Music, and Yale University School of Music, where she earned an Artist Diploma. Jennie Jung recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts at the Juilliard School. |

STEVEN VANHAUWAERT piano Grand-Prize winner of the International Liszt Competition in Los Angeles, Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert graduated in 1999 from the Conservatorium in Kortrijk and earned his Master of Music degree in 2004 from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. He continued his studies at the USC Thornton School of Music with Kevin Fitz-Gerald, James Bonn, and John Perry. Steven won the USC Concerto Competition with the Schumann Concerto and performed it with the USC Thornton Symphony under the baton of Carl St. Clair in March 2006. He performs frequently throughout Europe and the US as solo recitalist and with chamber music ensembles and has appeared with the Pacific Symphony, the Flemish Symphony, Collegium Instrumentale, and Prima la Musica, to name a few. Steven is a frequent pianist of the acclaimed Jacaranda series in Santa Monica. This recital marks the Steven's return to Trinity Lutheran after having performed previously on the "Previews" and "Bach's Lunch" series. |

Designed as musical journeys through time, the programs of Arpa y Aulos encompass music from the Renaissance to the present day, including commissioned new music written especially for the ensemble. |

Malesha Jessie will join Los Angeles Opera in their 2008 season opener of Puccini's Suor Angelica. Her past engagements include the Boston Pops Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. Malesha was a Resident Artist with Los Angeles Opera during the 2006-2007 season, making her debut in Porgy and Bess, and covering roles in Don Carlo and Manon. Malesha earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Arts from the USC Thornton School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from California State University, Fullerton. |
