This summer a team of highly motivated students and volunteers will develop a Digital Map Web delivery system for the residents on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

GOING TO THE GREEN   -   An Exciting Business Incubator
Safe Bike Paths for Kids

This summer a team of highly motivated students and volunteers will develop a Digital Map Web delivery system for the residents on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Interns will touch on many aspects of developing a product for delivery on the Internet:

  • Community Service
  • Conceptual design
  • Web design
  • Graphic design
  • Web site usability testing
  • Principles of web based on-line mapping systems using GIS
  • Researching and developing the data
  • Developing the IT delivery system
  • Product Testing
  • Marketing
  • Communication
  • Meetings with Community Leaders
  • Product Roll out and going live
  • Advertising
  • Data Analysis
  • Developing guidelines and policies

This information system will provide maps showing the safest bike paths for students to ride their bicycles to school.

Internship Dates:

Start: Saturday, June 21 @ 10am - Noon First meeting & orientation
End: Friday, August 30 @ 10am - Noon Last meeting & conclusion

This project will most likely continue to be developed and refined over the course of nine to twelve months. There will be no additional charge for the additional period of time to those participants who would like to continue working on this project.

Internship requirements:

  • No experience necessary
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Attend 8 group meeting of 2 hours each on Saturdays FROM 10AM - 12PM
  • Scheduling is very flexible. Interns may participate between 10:00AM and 5:00PM Monday - Friday
  • Interns must log a minimum of 8 hours per week. Max hours available per week is 20 (holidays are exempt)

A Certificate will be presented upon completion.

Internship fee: $1800
