Hospitalization...
covers the intensive care the doctor and staff
provide as well as the maintenance of the facilities.
Injections...
covers intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous
administration of drugs by the doctor.
Medications....
consist of primarily of oral and topical pharmaceuticals
dispensed by the doctor.
Sedations...
include injections to decrease pain, reduce anxiety,
or in preparation for surgery.
Fluid Therapy...
is used for loss of blood, shock and dehydration.
Many different fluids are available to administer either intravenously
or subcutaneously.
Fractures...
are usually immobilized in a temporary splint so that no further damage
will occur to the fractured bones or surrounding tissue. Our primary concern
is the accompanying shock and pain which os potentially life threatening.
After your animal has been stabilized, permanent repair should be performed
by your regular doctor.
Anesthesia...
is usually induced with a short-acting intravenous compound and maintained
with a gas anesthetic. This is the safest approach and leads to a rapid
recovery after completion of surgery.
Surgery...
is necessary for some cases seen at the Emergency Pet Clinic, i.e.
thoraric surgery, abdominal surgery, caesarean sections, foreign body removal
and lacerations. This service includes use of the hospital's surgical equipment,
instrument preparation and sterilization as well as the surgeon's time
and expertise.
X-Rays...
include the use of the radiograph equipment, the assistant's time to
hold your pet and develop the x-rays and the veterinarian's interpretation
of the x-rays.
