Individual Project #1

The objective of this project is to show that air moving at higher speeds has lower pressure, resulting in greater lift.

Materials Required:

    1. A standard sheet of writing paper
    2. A book

Make an airfoil (or wing) by placing one end of the paper between the pages of the book so that the other end hangs over the top of the book as shown. Hold the book against your chin and blow over the top of the paper.

The air moving faster over the top of the paper lowers the pressure, causing the paper to rise. This same principle, the difference in pressure between the top and bottom of the airplane wing, provides lift.
