Thrust

This project will show how the rotation of a propeller causes thrust.

Material Required:

1. A 7" x 3/4" x 1/4" piece of balsa wood.
2. A 1/4" diameter dowel.

Note: material item #1 has to be shaped like a propeller or you can buy a propeller at a toy store or hobby shop.

First you'll have to have your teacher drill a hole in the balsa wood. Attach the dowel to the propeller. Next, hold the dowel loosely in one hand and rapidly twist the dowel with the other hand.

A rapid twist causes the thrust necessary to make the propeller move foreword.
