2000 Jaguar S-TYPE
Graceful style, refined power, agile handling
and luxurious comfort. These are the attributes of the Jaguar S-TYPE V8,
a precision engineered luxury sports sedan. Powered by Jaguar's proven
4.0 liter AJ-V8 engine, the S-TYPE V8 features advanced cylinder head technology
for high performance, efficiency and emissions control. Enhancing the handling
of the S-TYPE V8 are advanced traction control and Jaguar's new optional
Dynamic Stability Control system. Other features include dual-zone automatic
climate control, a universal programmable garage door opener, an electrochromic
interior rearview mirror with compass, a power tilt and slide glass sunroof,
and a fold-down 60/40 split rear seat. Options available include a satellite-aided
navigation system, an emergency messaging system, and an industry-first
voice activation system that lets you operate key functions in the car
without ever taking your hands from the wheel. The new 2000 Jaguar S-TYPE
is a 4 door rear wheel drive luxury sport compact sedan. The S-TYPE will
become the entry level model for the Jaguar lineup. Jaguar hopes it will
become its top seller with anticipated sales of 20.000 cars in North America.
Marketed to attract a new generation of customers, the S-TYPE will compete
in the luxury market against Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes. With its base price
to be set in the low 40s, the S-TYPE will now be available to a broader
audience in the luxury market. The styling for the S-TYPE retains certain
Jaguar qualities such as the elliptical vertical-bar grille and the distinctive
four-headlight Jaguar face but also shows a sportier, more modern design.
The S-TYPE is powered by either the new 3.0L 240-hp V6, or the 4.0L 281-hp
V8 found in most other Jaguar models. Both engines are paired with a 5-speed
automatic transmission that is equipped with the J-gate shifter, which
allows for manual or fully automatic operation. With its new design, the
2000 S-TYPE offers several new features. As an option a Sport Package is
available that includes the Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS)
which provides improved handling and driver control. It is the first time
this system is being offered in North America on any Jaguar model. The
S-TYPE will also feature a first for the auto industry, the Voice-Activated
Control System. It allows for the operation of the climate control system,
audio system, and telephone operation by voice commands.
