2000 Audi TT

The Audi TT is a two-door front-wheel drive sports coupe. It has two front seats and two compact rear seats that can accommodate small children. The TT is built from the same basic platform as the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta and Beetle and the European Audi A3. The TT enters a sports coupe market that has continued to grow in recent years. The small rear seats differentiate it from straight two-seaters, and although the rear seats are not functional for adults, they can fold down to offer a sizable amount of cargo volume. The only available model at this time offers the turbocharged, 180 horsepower, 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine, but Audi plans on offering a 180 horsepower quattro model in Fall 1999, and a 225 horsepower quattro model in Spring 2000. Also available in Spring 2000 will be a TT roadster. The most striking feature of the Audi TT is its dramatic styling. Taking design cues from retro European sports cars and adding a low roofline, the TT offers an impressive exterior design. There is also a stylish complementary interior design that utilizes a recurring theme of circles and straight lines. The TT's turbocharger allows the same engine used in the A4 to produce 30 more horsepower in the TT, and a 5-valve per cylinder head engine design allows for outstanding performance from a smaller displacement engine. A modified A3 suspension takes advantage of the TT's small wheelbase to offer a sporty ride, but the front-wheel drive TT can be more prone to understeering than competitive rear-wheel drive sports coupes. The Audi TT coupe is an all-new introduction for 2000.
