PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
OCTOBER 2009
Hi Neighbors ,
We are very sad to say goodbye to Jan Funahashi and Ange Ronayne this month. Jan and Ange have been two of our greatest supporters and we will miss them greatly. Ange is going back to Texas and Jan is returning to Japan. We THANK YOU for all you have done for our club and wish you safe travels and a fond farewell. Please keep in touch.
Jill Sederholm, international student coordinator for Marymount College, will be the guest speaker at our October coffee meeting. Jill will discuss the foreign exchange student program run by Marymount and opportunities for fund raising with New Neighbors and Marymount at this meeting. We hope all members will encourage any new arrivals you know to attend one of our monthly Coffee Meetings. We are always interested in welcoming new members to our club.
Thank you Susan Wade for hosting the September wine tasting and social gathering in her home. Thanks also to new member Yasuko Osaki who has kindly volunteered to fill in as newsletter editor in the absence of Lorna Wallace who will be in Asia for 8 weeks teaching at the Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, in China. Best of luck Lorna and safe travels.
Amazingly, it’s time to start planning our annual holiday fundraiser, to be held this year on Thursday, December 3rd. If you would like to chair this important event, please contact us as soon as possible. This Christmas Coffee meeting includes a bake sale and silent auction and is our major fundraiser of the year. As you know, the profits from this event enable us to support our charities: Harbor Interfaith, Little Tokyo Services, Torrance Hospice, and House of Yahweh.
We hope you can all join us for our annual Halloween Party. Thanks to Peggy Darby, this year’s host. Come in your most creative costume and enjoy an evening together at Peggy's on Sat., Oct. 24th at 7 pm.
Watch this space for further information on your annual Holiday Party --- SAVE the DATE --- Dec. 5th Cathy Kelly has kindly volunteered to host this popular event at her lovely home again this year.
