The City Council is composed of five members who are elected at-large on a non-partisan ballot to serve four-year, overlapping terms. City Council elections are
the first Tuesday following the first Monday in March of odd numbered years. Each year the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor.

City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers located in the City Hall complex at 340 Palos Verdes Drive West. Meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.

City Council meetings represent only a small portion of the total time the Council Members commit to their roles as elected officials. Members also represent the City to state lawmakers, participate on a number of committees and attend various conferences affecting the City. Council Members serve on a voluntary basis without financial compensation.
