Mayor Joseph C. Sherwood, Jr.

The Honorable Joseph C. Sherwood, Jr. was re-elected to the City Council in 2005, and currently serves as Mayor. Mayor Sherwood is a 35 year resident of the City, with community involvement that includes serving on the City’s Planning Commission and the Board of the Palos Verdes Tennis Club, chairing the City’s Independence Day Celebration and serving 16 years on the Board of the San Pedro/Peninsula YMCA, with 2 years a Chairman.

Mayor Sherwood and his wife Phyllis, an educator, have two sons, Jay and Mark, both of whom graduated from Palos Verdes High School.

Mayor Sherwood earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Delaware School of Business and Economics. His professional business career includes working as the Vice-President and General Manager for 3 separate companies. Additionally, Mayor Sherwood served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for 2 years.

Mayor Sherwood is interested in preserving our City’s ambiance and quality of life and bringing sound management practices to local government. As a former Planning Commissioner and member of the Ad Hoc Committee for the review of Neighborhood Compatibility issues his goal is to continue to ensure the outstanding quality of life offered to those who live in Palos Verdes Estates.
