The Planning Department is responsible for maintaining and
enforcing the General Plan, the Zoning Code, and the Local Coastal Program.
Planning Department staff reviews all proposals for compliance with applicable
planning regulations. Staff also provides reports and analyses on proposed
projects to the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission reviews all projects for which discretionary approval is required. Planning Commission meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the third Tuesday of each month at City Hall. The Commission consists of seven voluntary members, appointed by the City Council, to two-year terms. Building and Safety The Palos Verdes Estates Department of Building and Safety is responsible for the enforcement of building code regulations, which provide minimum standards to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare by regulating materials, use, and occupancy. The City of Palos Verdes Estates follows the 1997 edition of the Uniform Building Code. Inspection Requests For plan check or inspection status, or for answers to any other building and safety related questions, please call City Hall at (310) 378-0383 between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
