Educational Technology Initiative
PVNET Technology Center is recruiting applicants with engineering background to serve on an advisory committee which will result in a program to lead a two semester program for a high school intern educational technology initiative in 3-D printing (additive printing).
This program will involve the planning, specification, acquiring and demonstration of the manufacturing of a product using additive printing.
The Engineers will meet to develop the program, select interns, mentor, supervise and support the interns. Engineers will conduct classes at PVNET, meet with students and parents as necessary, interface with local high schools, evaluate each student’s performance, and write student evaluations upon completion.
Interns will participate in the design of projects, the program plan schedule and for acquiring the 3-D printer and supporting software.
Once the schedule is approved, the interns will research the field of 3-D printing in such detail as to allow the development of a specification with cost tradeoffs.
At the conclusion of this phase the Interns will hold a System Design Review (SDR) where all elements of the program are defined including:
- Software Specifications
- 3-D printer Specification
- Supporting equipment
- Product to be manufactured
Preliminary Design Review
During this phase of the program the interns will explore the capabilities of the various software packages and make the final selection of hardware and software for procurement. Test samples to demonstrate the software and hardware capabilities of various approaches will be presented at a Preliminary Design Review (PDR)
Final Design Review
Under this task all software, hardware and supporting equipment will be procured.
The interns under the direction of the senior engineers will design the selected object using the appropriate software and then execute the manufacturing of the product using the 3-D printer.
The selected product will demonstrate the assembly of different items from the cartridges of basic materials.
A final report will be submitted and include the completed part selected for manufacture.
