MINUTES

CITY COUNCIL MEETING

JULY 8, 1997

 

A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Rolling Hills Estates was called to order at 7:32 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, 4045 Palos Verdes Drive North, by MAYOR SEAMANS.

 

 

Recommendation: That the City Council approve the agreement for services necessary to maintain the City’s compliance with AB 939 requirements and authorize appropriate City Officials to execute the agreement.

Administrative Analyst Swanson provided a staff report (as per agenda material).

COUNCILMAN BECK moved, seconded by MAYOR PRO TEM RAUCH TO APPROVE THE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN THE CITY’S COMPLIANCE WITH AB 939 REQUIREMENTS AND AUTHORIZE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT.

AYES: Beck, McGuire, Rauch, Seamans

ABSENT: Addleman

C. AMENDMENT TO LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Recommendation: That the City Council approve the amendment with BMC Landscape, Inc., for the expansion of landscape services and direct the appropriate City Officials to execute the agreement.

Community Services Director Gill provided a staff report (as per agenda material).

COUNCILWOMAN MC GUIRE moved, seconded by COUNCILMAN BECK

TO APPROVE THE AMENDMENT WITH BMC LANDSCAPE, INC., FOR THE EXPANSION OF LANDSCAPE SERVICES AND DIRECT THE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT.

 OLD BUSINESS

 A. INDIAN PEAK LANDSLIDE

 Recommendation: That the City Council receive and file this report.

 Planning Director Orci provided a staff report (as per agenda material).

COUNCILMAN BECK moved, seconded by COUNCILWOMAN MC GUIRE TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE STAFF REPORT. THERE BEING NO OBJECTION, MAYOR SEAMANS SO ORDERED.

 CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS/MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS

 A. COUNCILMAN BECK

 1. SOUTH BAY COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS MEETING OF JUNE 26, 1997

COUNCILMAN BECK reported that he attended this meeting noting that discussion focused primarily on the Los Angeles Airport expansion. He announced various meetings scheduled by the FAA. Other items for discussion included announcement of the new AQMD Representative, AB 2766 transportation funding, the final draft of a transportation survey, and whether the SBCOG should expand its scope.

 B. MAYOR SEAMANS

 1. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS

a) MAYOR SEAMANS announced that a new sound system has been installed in the City Hall Council Chambers provided by Cox Cable.

b) MAYOR SEAMANS invited everyone to visit the George F Canyon Nature Center located at the corner of Palos Verdes Drive East and Palos Verdes Drive North.

c) MAYOR SEAMANS announced that the Town Hall meeting regarding economic development in the City is scheduled to be broadcast live from the Norris Theatre on Wednesday, July 9 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and invited everyone to attend the reception prior to the program beginning at 5:30 p.m.

d) MAYOR PRO TEM RAUCH announced the Tracy Austin Tennis Tournament scheduled for July 11-13, 1997 with a western-style barbecue planned for Friday evening at Howlett Park.

At 8:03 p.m., MAYOR SEAMANS formally adjourned the City Council meeting to Tuesday, July 22, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of an economic development study session.
