Rancho Palos Verdes City Council

TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

FROM: CITY MANAGER

DATE: OCTOBER 1, 2002

SUBJECT: CALIFORNIA LEAGUE OF CITIES VOTING DELEGATE

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint a voting delegate for the California League of Cities General Assembly Business meeting on Saturday, October 5, 2002.

BACKGROUND:

Mayor McTaggart is the official Voting Delegate for the League of California Cities 2002 Annual Conference in Long Beach on October 5, 2002. The Voting Alternate is Mayor Pro Tem Douglas Stern. Neither Mayor McTaggart or Mayor Pro Tem Stern are registered for the conference.

Councilmember Larry Clark is the only Rancho Palos Verdes elected official registered for the conference. However, he will be unable to attend the Saturday morning General Assembly business session.

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes will have a Policy Resolution before the League General Assembly on October 5, 2002 advocating a more effective program for the conversion of overhead utilities to underground facilities.

DISCUSSION

Each League member city has the right to cast its vote on annual conference resolutions. The voting delegate and alternate are appointed by the city prior to the annual conference. To cast the city’s vote the voting delegate must:

  • Be registered to attend the conference.
  • Have the city’s voting card in their possession.
  • Have registered with the Credentials Committee at the conference.

It appears that the City will not have a voting delegate at the conference.

Respectfully submitted,
Les Evans,
City Manager
