TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS RECOMMENDATION: Approve sending a letter of support for the West Basin Municipal Water District application for grant of $16 Million from the State Department of Water Resources. BACKGROUND: Attached is a letter from the West Basin Municipal Water District requesting support for a Proposition 13 grant application to upgrade existing seawater barrier facilities and to directly decrease its dependence on imported water. Mayor Pro Tem Ferraro and Councilmember Gardiner are the City delegates to the West Basin Water Association, however, the District staff has asked that Councilmember McTaggart place this request for support before the City Council. DISCUSSION: Information in support of the request is attached to the staff report.
