SUBJECT: RESOLUTION TO APPROVE FUNDING FOR STUDY OF POTENTIAL GIRLS SOFTBALL FIELD LOCATIONS
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution No. 2004- authorizing a budget increase in the amount of $15,000 for consultant services to assist Staff in studying prospective sites for Girls Softball fields.
DISCUSSION
The City Council met on January 20, 2004 to receive an update on the activities of the Open Space Planning and Recreation & Parks Task Force, including a proposal for potential uses of Lower Point Vicente Park. At that meeting, the Council instructed the Task Force to formulate uses for the site that only include passive recreation and do not include any active recreation, such as softball fields. The Council also authorized $15,000 in funds to be used to hire a professional consultant to assist the staff in creating specific plans, budgets and timetables for the construction of up to four softball fields at locations in the City other than Lower Point Vicente.
The attached Resolution will memorialize the appropriation of additional funds to this project, as previously directed by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of the consultant’s services ($15,000) was approved by the Council at its meeting on January 20, 2004.

RESOLUTION NO. 2004-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2003-42, THE BUDGET APPROPRIATION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2003-2004, FOR A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT TO THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND
WHEREAS, Section 3.32 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code provides that all expenditures in excess of budgeted allocations must be by supplemental appropriation of the City Council; and,
WHEREAS, on June 3, 2003 the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes adopted Resolution No. 2003-42 approving a spending plan and authorizing a budget appropriation for the 2003-2004 fiscal year; and,
WHEREAS, the services of a professional consultant are required to assist Staff in studying prospective sites for Girls Softball fields; and,
WHEREAS, a budget increase in the General Fund is necessary to authorize expenditures for the aforementioned professional consultant.
BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES:
Section 1: The following increase be made to the fiscal year 2003-2004 General Fund budget:
