SUBJECT: PROPOSED CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOPS

RECOMMENDATION

Set dates and times for Joint meetings with the City Council and the Traffic Committee and the Planning Commission.

BACKGROUND

The City Council and the Traffic Committee were previously scheduled for a joint meeting on July 29, 2003. Unfortunately that meeting was not held. Since formulation of a citywide traffic and parking control plan is one of the City Council’s four major initiatives this year, a joint meeting with the Traffic Committee should be scheduled as soon as possible. There are two new members of the Traffic Committee and two new Council members who may wish to voice their ideas and opinions on traffic issues before a plan is developed.

The Planning Commission has five new members and anticipates hearing some very significant development proposals this year. The Council may wish to provide the Commission some advice and guidance before they face the issues.

DISCUSSION

The City Council has previously identified the fifth Tuesday of any month as a potential City Council meeting date. The next "fifth Tuesday" is on March 30, 2004. Staff proposes that this date be set aside for a joint meeting between the City Council and the Traffic Committee.

There is also a "fifth Tuesday" in June. Staff suggests that June 29, 2004 be tentatively scheduled for a joint meeting between the City council and the Planning Commission.
