TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS DATE: APRIL 6, 2004 SUBJECT: STORM DRAIN MASTER PLAN UPDATERECOMMENDATION Approve change order number one to a contract with AKM Consulting Engineers in the amount of $13,196 to provide additional engineering services to the update of the storm drain master plan. DISCUSSIONS In August 2003 the City Council awarded a professional service contract to AKM Consulting Engineers to update the City’s master plan of storm drains. Services provided under this contract include an update of costs to reconstruct deficient storm drains, analysis of areas that were not included in the original update, and the preparation of new storm drain base maps. At this time staff is has received and is reviewing estimates of cost that will soon be presented to the City Council. A final report is scheduled to be delivered in June 2004. Once work was underway it was determined that because the County of Los Angeles has adopted new rainfall and hydrology standards some of the assumptions utilized in the original Master Plan were no longer valid. To insure our update is consistent with County standards additional services in the amount of $13,196 will be required. The recommended action authorizes these additional services. CONCLUSIONS Adopting the staff recommendations will approve a change order to an existing contract with AKM Consulting Engineers for services related to the update of the storm drain master plan. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Do not utilize current County standards for storm drain design. FISCAL IMPACT Funding is programmed in the Adopted FY 03 – 04 Budget for these services.
