TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS DATE: APRIL 20, 2004 SUBJECT: CITY HALL ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTION RECOMMENDATIONS
DISCUSSION On March 8, 2004 bids were opened for the construction of an elevator at City. A summary of bids is as follows:Del Amo Construction Inc. $ 840,0002H Construction $ 645,300The construction budget is $550,000, and the engineer’s estimate of cost is $ 460,000.Upon review of the bids and after discussions with bidders it appears that the plans were unclear in certain aspects of the project. In addition staff believes that some elements of the project can be eliminated and still achieve the objectives of the project. Staff recommends that all bids be rejected, and that the project be revised to bring clarity and reduce scope, and that the plans be re-advertised. CONCLUSION Adopting the staff recommendation result in re-advertising the plans and specifications for the elevator project, with a new bid opening dated scheduled in May 2004, and consideration for award in June 2004,Submitted by,Dean Allison,Director of Public WorksReviewed by,Les Evans, City Manager Attachments: Draft Guidelines December 16, 2003 City Council Staff Report Minutes from December 16, 2003 City Council meeting
