SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO THE SANITATION DISTRICTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY

RECOMMENDATION

Appoint Mayor Pro Tem Clark as the City’s representative to the Los Angeles County Sanitation District Number 5 and the South Bay Sanitation District.

BACKGROUND

The City is a member of two of the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County: Sanitation District Number 5 and the South Bay Sanitation District. By law, the Mayor is the City's representative on the Sanitation District. Each city has an alternate that may be any council member, but has traditionally been the Mayor Pro Tem. The Districts meet the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 PM at Torrance City Hall, third floor Assembly Room, at 3031 Torrance Boulevard.

Due to conflicts with work schedules Mayor Gardiner and Mayor Pro Tem Clark have been unable to attend the monthly meetings of the Sanitation Districts and the City of Rancho Palos Verdes has not been represented.

DISCUSSION

Recently Mayor Pro Tem Clark met with James Stahl, General Manager of the Sanitation Districts, and agreed that he would make an effort to attend the monthly District meetings whenever his schedule allowed. The Mayor traditionally makes this appointment.
