TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
DATE: AUGUST 17, 2004
SUBJECT: SLURRY SEAL OF PALOS VERDES DRIVE EAST
STAFF COORDINATOR: Ron Dragoo, Senior Engineer
RECOMMENDATIONS
BACKGROUND
On July 13, 2004 bids were opened for the Slurry Seal of Palos Verdes Drive East in the City. A summary of bids is as follows: Alliance Streetworks, Inc. $209,520; Roy Allen, Slurry Seal, Inc. $185,146; All American Asphalt $175,856; and the engineer’s estimate of cost is $154,550. Upon review of the bid documents, contractor’s bids and after discussions with bidders it appears that the quantities for asphalt repair need to be adjusted to reflect actual field conditions. This should lower bid amounts to be more in line with the engineer/s estimate. Staff recommends rejecting all bids, revising the project, and re-advertising the plans.
CONCLUSIONS
Adopting the staff recommendations will result in re-advertising the plans and specifications for the Slurry Seal of Palos Verdes Drive East project, with a new bid opening dated scheduled in September 2004, and consideration for award in October 2004.
