SUBJECT: BLUE STAR PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION:
Consider adopting a program to honor military families who live on the Peninsula.
BACKGROUND:
Councilmember, and immediate past Mayor, Judy Mitchell of Rolling Hills Estates has asked Mayor Clark if the City of Rancho Palos Verdes would be interested in participating in a program to support Peninsula families of military service personnel who are currently on active duty.
DISCUSSION:
Attached is a letter from (former) Mayor Judy Mitchell to Mayor Clark describing the "Blue Star Program" and asking if the City of Rancho Palos Verdes would like to participate. Rolling Hills Estates has initiated the program in their City and is willing to take the lead on spreading it throughout the Peninsula.
Doug Prichard, RHE City Manager, has described the program to our staff and it can be accomplished with very little cost or commitment of personnel. The Program seems consistent with City Council efforts to recognize those persons in our community who are making an extra sacrifice to serve their country and their neighbors.
