SUBJECT: BUDGET MEETINGS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS’ BREAKFASTS SCHEDULE FOR 2005
RECOMMENDATION
1. Select two dates in May for the Budget Review Sessions.
- Select two dates, one in spring and one in fall, for the Community Leaders' Breakfast meetings.
BACKGROUND
At the December 21, 2004 meeting, the City Council set two dates to hold Budget Policy Issue Workshops – Saturday, February 26 and Saturday, March 12, 2005. However, due to the length of the agenda, the Council did not establish dates for Budget Review Sessions or the two Saturday Community Leaders’ Breakfasts. Staff is returning with these two remaining items in order to complete the budget schedule and begin the planning process for the community meetings.
DISCUSSION
Budget Review Sessions
In addition to the budget policy issues workshops schedule in February and March, two sessions should be scheduled to provide the City Council with an opportunity to review and comment on the entire proposed budget prior to the formal Public Hearing in June. The Council may complete its review of the draft budget at the first budget review session. If that is the case, then a second session will not be necessary. Below are proposed dates for the Budget Review Sessions (please select two dates):

Depending on which dates the Council selects for the Budget Review Sessions, the proposed final Public Hearing date for the FY 2005-06 and 2006-07 Budget document is tentatively scheduled for the June 7 or June 21, 2005 City Council meetings.
Community Leaders' Breakfast Meetings
The City has been hosting two Community Leaders' Breakfast meetings per year to create more opportunities for communication with the residents and appointed officials of the City. Should the Council wish to continue these breakfast meetings in 2005, the following is a list of proposed dates for both the spring and fall meetings:
