TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CITY MANAGER
DATE: FEBRUARY 1, 2005
SUBJECT: ACCEPT MILITARY DEPENDENTS AT PENINSULA SCHOOLS
RECOMMENDATION:
Consider adopting a Resolution asking the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District to open up schools to the children of active military personnel.
BACKGROUND:
Councilmembers Gardiner and Long have asked that the City Council adopt a Resolution asking the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District to open up schools to the children of active military personnel, at least on a space available basis, even when the children reside outside the District. Councilman Long believes opening up Peninsula schools could be a key factor in saving the Los Angeles Air Force Base from closure.
DISCUSSION:
At the time the City Council agenda was published there was no additional information available on the specifics of the proposed Resolution. The LAAFB Regional Alliance has been asked to provide details for a Resolution.
Respectfully Submitted,
Les Evans
City Manager
