TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS
FROM: CITY MANAGER
DATE: MARCH 15, 2005
SUBJECT: BEST OF THE NORTHWEST – JUDGING PANEL
RECOMMENDATION
Endorse the selection of Councilman Gardiner, Gabriella Holt and Ted Vegvari as a Judging Panel for the "Best of the Northwest;" or appoint an alternate panel.
BACKGROUND
Several months ago, Gabriella Holt, the City’s Public Television Productions Manager, was notified of an opportunity to be a "judging site" for the Alliance for Community Media – Northwest Region. With the concurrence of the Cable TV Committee, staff submitted our application for consideration as a "site." Last week we were notified that we have been selected as a judging site. We also received a box of eight tapes to be judged by a three person panel by Friday, March 18th. We were advised that the panel should consist of one community producer, one access person or media professional and one individual with a special interest in the categories being judged. Our categories are "Democracy in Action" and "Community Involvement." Judging Criteria and forms were included.
DISCUSSION
The RPV Cable TV Committee made up of Council members Gardiner and Stern, Gabriella Holt, Ted Vegvari and Les Evans endorse the City’s participation as a "‘Judging Site" and recommend the appointment of councilman Gardiner, Productions Manager Gabriella Holt and PVNET President Ted Vegvari as the panel of judges.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City of participating in the judging.
Respectfully submitted:
Les Evans
City Manager
