RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Authorize the expenditure of up to $19,000.00 to republic Electric, for a new Traffic Signal Controller.
  2. Adopt a Resolution 2005-_____, A resolution of the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, Amending resolution 2004-05, the budget appropriation for FY 04 –05, for a budget adjustment to the City’s Traffic Safety Program within the General Fund.

BACKGROUND

On March 9, 2005 Public Works received an invoice for $18,921.78 for the replacement of a traffic signal controller at Hawthorne Blvd. and Palos Verdes Drive West that was damaged in a traffic collision. Payment of this invoice will exceed the budgeted amount and therefore a budget adjustment is needed. Staff anticipates these funds will be reimbursed by the errant driver’s insurance carrier.

FISCAL IMPACT

This appropriation is from the General Fund. This estimated General Fund balance at 06-30-2005 is $10,994,862 (see Attachment A)

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS

VERDES, AMENDING RESOLUTION 2004-45, THE BUDGET APPROPRIATION

FOR FISCAL YEAR 2004-05, FOR A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT TO THE CITY’S TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAINTENANCE PROGRAM WITHIN THE GENERAL FUND

WHEREAS, Section 3.32 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code provides that all expenditures in excess of budgeted allocations must be by supplemental appropriation of the City Council; and

WHEREAS, on June 1, 2004, the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes adopted Resolution 2004-45, approving a spending plan and authorizing a budget appropriation for the 2004-05 fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City to allocate additional funds for the replacement of a traffic signal controller that was damaged in an automobile accident; and

WHEREAS, a budget increase in the Traffic Signal Maintenance Program is necessary to authorize the expenditure of additional funds for traffic signal maintenance;

BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES:

The following adjustment be made to the following program:

Traffic Signal Maintenance 202-3004-431-43-00 $ 19,000.00
