TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL
FROM: DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
DATE: MAY 3, 2005
SUBJECT: STREET NAME CHANGES
RECOMMENDATIONSBACKGROUND
The street names for Tract 46651 were approved with a final subdivision map in 1997. Subsequent to approval, street name signs were installed by the developer with names on three streets differing from the official name or spelling. Over time property owners and visitors to the neighborhood have grown accustomed to the posted names rather than the official names. This action items adjusts the official name to match the posted names.
DISCUSSION
Table One compares the official street names, the street names shown on the existing street name signs in the Tract and the recommended official street names.

A problem the differing names has caused is that commercial projects such as MapQuest.com recognize the official, rather than the posted name. Problems related to emergency response have not occurred.
The California Government Code provides, in section 34091.1, that whenever a city council finds that the existing name of any city street should be changed, the city council may adopt a resolution changing the name of such street. Section 34092 of the Government Code requires that whenever the name of any street is changed by the City that the city clerk shall promptly forward a copy of the resolution providing for such change of name to the board of supervisors of the county where the city is located. The City will also notify agencies such as the Postal Service, Fire Department, and Sheriff’s Office.
CONCLUSION
Adopting the staff recommendation will officially establish street names that are in common usage and familiar by the residents of the tract.
FISCAL IMPACT
The recommended action will have no fiscal impact
