TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER/CITY CLERK
DATE: JUNE 21, 2005
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE MEMBERS
RECOMMENDATION
Appoint members to the Emergency Preparedness Committee, each with a two-year term of office until June 2007.
BACKGROUND
On June 3, 2003, the Council appointed seven regular members to the Emergency Preparedness Committee, four members with two-year terms expiring on June 7, 2005 and three members with four-year terms expiring in June 5, 2007. Jack Karp resigned from the Emergency Preparedness Committee in January 2004 when he was appointed to the Planning Commission, but was re-appointed to the committee as an ex officio (non-voting) member on June 1, 2004.
The terms of the following four members expire in June 2005: Shirley Borks, Maureen Ford, Tim McCully and Stuart Salot
On March 15, 2005, Council decided to interview candidates for the Emergency Preparedness Committee prior to this evening’s regular meeting. The City Clerk’s Office has completed the recruitment period for the vacancies on the Committee, Council conducted interviews earlier this evening and staff is now presenting the candidates for the Council’s consideration.
DISCUSSION
Recruitment to fill the four expiring terms on the Emergency Preparedness Committee began the week of April 5, 2005, with the recruitment period running through May 31, 2005. As a result of the City’s recruitment efforts, three candidates applied for appointment. Of the four incumbents, only Mr. McCully is seeking re-appointment. Earlier this evening, the City Council interviewed the candidates for that vacancy. Staff has prepared a ballot listing the candidates for the Council’s consideration.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolynn Petru
Assistant City Manager/City Clerk
