SUBJECT: CONTRACT AMENDMENT FOR ADDITIONAL SHERIFF TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT SERVICES
1) Authorize the City Manager to sign the City’s Service Level Authorization for FY 05-06 to add an additional Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department traffic enforcement deputy during the p.m. and weekends shift; and 2) Adopt Resolution No. 2005- ___, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes approving a revision to Resolution No. 2005-53, the budget appropriation for FY 05-06, authorizing an increase in the amount of $81,748 to the Public Safety Program.
On October 18, 2005, the City Council authorized the addition of a traffic deputy to cover the P.M. and weekend shift, which is not currently covered by the existing traffic deputy and motorcycle unit. The new traffic deputy would only patrol in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and would not be part of the Regional Contract with the Cities of Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates. Because this is a new position, the Sheriff can offer the traffic deputy to the City under the "growth rate" until June 30, 2007. Under the current contract, the cost of a growth rate traffic deputy for one year is $140,218, which is reflected on the attached "Hours of Service and Estimated Charges," however, because the earliest the position could be filled is December 1, 2005, the City would only be paying for 7 months of service during the current fiscal year or $81,748.
This budget appropriation would reduce the estimated excess General fund reserve of $2,812,205 to $2,730,457.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2005-53, THE BUDGET APPROPRIATION FOR FISCAL YEAR 05-06, FOR A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT TO THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND
WHEREAS, on May 31, 2005 the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes adopted Resolution No. 2005-53, approving a spending plan and authorizing a budget appropriation for the 2005-2006 fiscal year; and,
WHEREAS, Section 3.32 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code provides that all expenditures in excess of budgeted allocations must be by supplemental appropriation of the City Council; and,
WHEREAS, on October 18, 2005, City Council authorized the addition of a traffic deputy to cover the P.M. and weekend shift, which is not currently covered by the existing traffic deputy and motorcycle unit; and,
BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES:
Section 1: The following increase be made to the fiscal year 2005-2006 General Fund budget:
