TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CITY MANAGER
DATE: DECEMBER 6, 2005
SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATES
Consider canceling the Tuesday, January 3, 2006 City Council meeting and setting a date for a tactical planning session.
Since the first Council meeting of the New Year falls on January 3, 2006, which is also the first day after a holiday period, the Council may wish to cancel that meeting.
For the past several years the Council has set a Tactical Planning workshop for a Saturday in January. This meeting, with management staff, is an opportunity to discuss goals for the coming year.
The City Councilís schedule of meetings and events for January, 2006 is starting to develop. The dates already tentatively reserved are as follows:
Tuesday, January 3 City Council meeting
Monday/Tuesday January 9-10 Contract Cities Conference
Tuesday January 15 City Council Meeting
Saturday January 21 Tactical Planning Workshop
Tuesday January 31 Marymount Workshop
Tuesday February 7 City Council meeting
The Council may wish to consider canceling the January 3, 2006 meeting or utilizing that date for issues for which staff reports can be prepared well in advance. If the meeting is to take place, the agenda will be prepared and delivered to the Council on Thursday, December 22, 2005.
Several Councilmembers have indicated they would like to schedule a Saturday Tactical Planning meeting similar to the 2004 and 2005 sessions. The meeting would include Councilmembers and senior staff and would re-visit the goals set nearly two
years ago as well as discuss new initiatives the Council may wish to add. Staff would suggest January 21st for this workshop.
