MAY 2, 2006 COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA

HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

FROM: CITY MANAGER

DATE: MAY 2, 2006

SUBJECT: COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA

RECOMMENDATION
Appoint three citizens to Councilwoman Janice Hahn’s Community Advisory board for Ponte Vista.

BACKGROUND
At the request of the City Council, Councilman Clark met with Councilwoman Janice Hahn on April 10, 2006 to discuss issues of mutual interest to the two cities. Of particular significance was the discussion regarding the Ponte Vista project and the possibility of a both a new LAUSD high school and a high density multi-family housing project being constructed on the old Navy housing site on Western Avenue near Palos Verdes Drive North. As she pointed out in her letter to Mayor Wolowicz in January, Councilwoman Hahn is seeking a Specific Plan for the site and intends to appoint a ten member Citizens Advisory and Oversight Committee to monitor the application and approval process for any project. She indicated to Councilman Clark that she would invite the City of Ranch Palos Verdes to appoint three of the committee members.

In order to get our committee members in place as soon as possible, I recommended, in the April 12, 2006 Weekly Administrative Report, that each Councilmember consider who would make good members of this committee and be prepared to nominate willing community leaders for consideration by the entire Council at the May 2, 2006 City Council meeting.

DISCUSSION
Since I did not hear otherwise from any Councilmember, the Council may be prepared to appoint three of our citizens to the Advisory Board tonight. If the Council prefers, the process for section of committee members could include advertising, applications and interviews, as we do with our formal Committees and Commissions.

Respectfully submitted

Les Evans
City Manager
