MAY 16, 2006 COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA MAY 16, 2006 COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA MAY 16, 2006 COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA

TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

FROM: CITY MANAGER

DATE: MAY 16, 2006

SUBJECT: COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR PONTE VISTA

RECOMMENDATION
Appoint three representatives to Councilwoman Janice Hahn’s Community Advisory Board for Ponte Vista.

BACKGROUND
At the request of the City Council, Councilman Clark met with Councilwoman Janice Hahn on April 10, 2006 to discuss issues of mutual interest to the two cities. Of particular significance was the discussion regarding the Ponte Vista project and the possibility of a both a new LAUSD high school and a high density multi-family housing project being constructed on the old Navy housing site on Western Avenue near Palos Verdes Drive North. As she pointed out in her letter to Mayor Wolowicz in January, Councilwoman Hahn is seeking a Specific Plan for the site and intends to appoint a ten member Citizens Advisory and Oversight Committee to monitor the application and approval process for any project. She indicated to Councilman Clark that she would invite the City of Ranch Palos Verdes to appoint three of the committee members.

At their meeting of May 2, 2006 the City Council agreed that each of the three major homeowners’ associations along Western Avenue would be asked to appoint a member of the Advisory Board.

DISCUSSION
The three homeowners’ associations have made the following appointments:

Peninsula Verde Dick Brunner
Mira Vista Mark Wells Steve LaPine (alternate)
Rolling Hills Riviera Lucie Thorson

Councilwoman Hahn’s office has indicated that the Advisory Board will begin meeting in June and will be active for about nine months.

Respectfully submitted
