SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF A CITY REPRESENTATIVE TO THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY WEST VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT BOARD

RECOMMENDATION

1) Reappoint Councilman Stern to represent the City on the West Vector Control District Board of Trustees for a new term of office beginning on June 8, 2006, for either a two year or four year term of office, as determined by the City Council; and 2) Direct staff to notify the District of the Council’s decision.

DISCUSSION

Councilman Stern is the City’s current representative to the West Vector Control District. He was appointed to this position effective June 8, 2004 and his term of office will expire on June 8, 2006. The June 8th date was determined by the fact that the City’s first appointment to the District was on June 8, 1988. All subsequent City representatives to this board will have the same appointment date during the year in which they are appointed. Councilman Stern has indicated that he is willing to serve another term as the City’s representative to the District. If Council is inclined to reappointment him, it will also need to decide whether it is for a two or four year term, ending on June 8, 2008 or June 8, 2010, respectively. Councilman Stern’s current term on City Council will end in November 2007, unless re-elected.
