RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Approve the Plans and Specifications for the Custodial Services for City Facilities. BACKGROUND The City operates eight facilities that require custodial maintenance throughout the city. Bell Building Maintenance currently provides janitorial services for seven of the eight city facilities. The City’s contract with Bell Building Maintenance expires June 30, 2006. Specifications were developed specific to custodial services and proposals (bids) were requested. Bids were opened on May 8, 2006. ANALYSIS Sealed bids were received and opened at 10:00am May 8, 2006. Coastal Building Services, Inc. submitted the lowest responsible and responsive bid of the two received. The following table summarizes bids:
The bids were reviewed for consistency with bid requirements. References were contacted and reported satisfactory or above performance on similar projects. The difference between the Engineer’s Estimate and the low bid is attributed to the increasing costs of fuel and materials required to perform the services. Staff recommends that Council authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Contract for Custodial Services for City Facilities (Attachment A) with Coastal Building Services, Inc. for the Custodial Services for City Facilities. CONCLUSIONS Adopting staff’s recommendations will result in approving the Specifications for the Custodial Services for City Facilities contract documents, award a contract to Coastal Building Services, Inc., and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the contract. FISCAL IMPACT Funding for the needed janitorial services is included in the proposed 06-07 Budget.
