SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO THE FINANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

RECOMMENDATION

Appoint Amar Moon to the Finance Advisory Committee to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of William Smith; said term of office until February 2010.

DISCUSSION

On April 30, 2006 a vacancy was created on the Finance Advisory Committee when William Smith resigned his position. The recruitment to fill the vacancy began May 4, 2006 and ended on May 30, 2006. The City Clerk’s Office received one application from Mr. Amar Moon during the recruitment period. Council may recall that Mr. Moon applied for appointment to the Planning Commission as his first choice and Finance Advisory Committee as his second choice during the last recruitment conducted in February 2006. Although there were many qualified applicants for both bodies and Mr. Moon was not appointed at that time, Council was impressed with his financial background and qualifications. Therefore, staff recommends that Council appoint Mr. Moon to the Finance Advisory Committee rather than extending the recruitment.

ALTERNATIVE

As an alternative to staff’s recommendation, Council could direct the City Clerk’s Office to conduct a new recruitment to seek additional applicants interested in serving on the Finance Advisory Committee.
