SUBJECT: NOTICE OF COMPLETION OF ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT AT CITY HALL CHANNEL 33, CABLE STUDIO.

RECOMMENDATION:

1. Accept the work done by Best Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc. on the replacement of roof at City Hall Channel 33, Cable Studio, as completed; and,

2. Authorize the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion with the Los Angeles County Recorder; and if no claims are filed within 35 days after recordation of the Notice and upon the contractor posting an acceptable warranty bond, City Clerk shall notify Summit Surety Insurance Company of America to exonerate both the Payment and Performance Bonds.

3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to release the 10% retention payment to Best Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc. 35 days after recordation of the Notice of Completion by the City Clerk at the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office, contingent on no claims being filed against the project.

BACKGROUND

On March 6, 2006, the City Council awarded a roof replacement construction contract to Best Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc. for the replacement of roofs at City Hall Channel 33, Cable Studio. The authorized construction budget for this project was $36,200 and includes the following amounts in each of the applicable project expenditure categories:

The replacement of these roofs was completed on May 31, 2006 at a cost of $23,700 as summarized below:

*The original construction contract amount included for the potential replacement of an estimated 1,000 square foot of roof deck. During construction, it was determined that deck replacement was unnecessary.

CONCLUSION

Best Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc. has successfully completed all work in accordance with the contract documents. Therefore, the work should be accepted as complete and the attached Notice of Completion filed.

FISCAL IMPACT

The recommended actions will have no fiscal impact.
