JULY 18, 2006 - CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION PVIC TOUR

TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

FROM: CITY MANAGER

DATE: JULY 18, 2006

SUBJECT: CALIFORNIA COASTAL COMMISSION PVIC TOUR

RECOMMENDATION
Consider the request of Councilman Clark to host a reception and tour of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center for the California Coastal Commission.

BACKGROUND
The California Coastal Commission meets in Long Beach in August. The Point Vicente Interpretive Center has re-opened for visitors and events.

DISCUSSION
Councilman Clark would like to offer a tour of the PVIC to Coastal Commission members after their meeting in San Pedro on Thursday, August 10th. A reception format for the event could include invitations to local dignitaries. The evening could also include hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and even musical entertainment to enhance the experience.

FISCAL IMPACT
Councilman Clark felt that he could find sponsors for reception refreshments and perhaps musical entertainment. If the City is to provide these extras, we estimate about $30 per person for a no-host bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres with serving staff. Obviously, a more conservative menu would substantially reduce costs.
