TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

FROM: ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER/CITY CLERK

DATE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2006

SUBJECT: FALL COMMUNITY LEADERS’ BREAKFAST AND ANNUAL HOLIDAY RECEPTION

RECOMMENDATION

Select Saturday, October 21, 2006 as the date for the Fall Community Leaders’ Breakfast at Hesse Park and select Monday, December 4, 2006 as the date for the Annual Holiday Reception at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center.

DISCUSSION

Fall Community Leaders’ Breakfast

The City hosts two Community Leaders' Breakfast meetings per year to create more opportunities for communication with the residents and appointed officials of the City. The spring 2006 breakfast was held on May 13th at Hesse Park. The following dates are currently available at Hesse Park:

Saturday, October 14th
Saturday, October 21st
Saturday, October 28th

Council has scheduled a Landslide Workshop on Saturday, October 7th at Miraleste Intermediate School. In order to provide a break between Saturday meetings and regularly scheduled Council meetings, staff recommends setting the date for the breakfast on Saturday, October 21st.

Annual Holiday Reception

Annually, the City Council hosts a reception during the month of December to honor Commissioners, Committee members and staff for their service to the City. The evening reception is typically held on the first Monday in December so that it does not conflict with other city holiday receptions held this time of year and to allow the current Mayor can host the event. Last year, the City changed the location of the event from Hesse Park to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. The following dates are currently available at Point Vicente Interpretive Center:

Monday, December 4th
Monday, December 11th (same as the City of Rolling Hills)
Monday, December 18th

Keeping with tradition, staff recommends setting the date for Monday, December 4th.

FISCAL IMPACT

These two events are funded through the City’s Community Outreach program. The budget for the Fall Community Leaders’ Breakfast is $850 and the budget for the Annual Holiday Reception is $7,200.
