SUBJECT: NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR POINT VICENTE INTERPRETIVE CENTER EXHIBITS PROJECT

RECOMMENDATIONS

1. Accept the work done by Taylor Studios Inc. for the fabrication and installation of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center exhibits project.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion with the Los Angeles County Recorder; and if no claims are filed within 35 days of recordation of the Notice, City Clerk shall notify Taylor Studios to exonerate the Performance Bond.

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

The project consisted of fabricating and installing exhibits at the newly-expanded Point Vicente Interpretive Center. The City Council at its November 15, 2005 meeting approved a total budget for phase 1 exhibits of $713, 279. $562, 279 of the total exhibit fabrication budget was awarded to Taylor Studios Inc. The City Council at its March 21, 2006 meeting approved an increase in Taylor Studios contract to $602, 279 to construct a whale boat enclosure that was previously going to be constructed by a separate contractor. The total budget for exhibits remained unchanged.

Most of the exhibit fabrication and installation project was completed by the Center’s grand opening on July 15, 2006. The project was completed at a cost of $705,405.00, $6,836 under budget. The project budget is summarized below:

CONCLUSION

Taylor Studios has successfully completed the PVIC Exhibit project in accordance with the contract documents. Therefore, the work should be accepted as complete and the attached Notice of Completion filed.

FISCAL IMPACT

Funding for this project was approved at the November 15, 2005 City Council meeting. The project was completed within the approved amounts with a balance of $6,836.00 remaining.
