SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULE

RECOMMENDATION

Consider canceling the Tuesday, January 2, 2006 City Council meeting.

DISCUSSION

Because the first Council meeting of the New Year falls on January 2, 2007, which is also the first day after the holiday break, Council may wish to cancel that meeting or utilize that date for issues for which staff reports can be prepared well in advance. If the meeting is to take place, the agenda will be prepared and delivered to the Council on Thursday, December 21, 2006.

The City Council’s schedule of meetings and events for January 2007 is starting to develop. The following dates are already tentatively reserved:

Tuesday, January 2 City Council meeting
Monday/Wednesday, January 8-10 Contract Cities Conference in Sacramento
Tuesday, January 16 City Council Meeting
Tuesday, January 30 Fifth Tuesday
Tuesday, February 6 City Council meeting

For the last three years, Council has also conducted a Tactical Planning Workshop on a Saturday in January. This meeting, with management staff, is an opportunity to discuss goals for the coming year. With the current recruitment for a new City Manager, Council may wish to postpone setting a date for this workshop until that individual is on board.
