SUBJECT: CABLE TELEVISION FRANCHISE PRODUCTIONS – 2007

RECOMMENDATION

1) Approve the proposed list of topics for all City-sponsored Special Event Shoots and Public Service Announcements for 2007; and 2) Authorize the Manager of RPV Cable Television to select the topics, subject to approval by the City Manager or his designee, for the one undesignated Special Event Shoot and one undesignated Public Service Announcement in 2007.

DISCUSSION

Under the 2000 Cable Television Franchise Agreement, the City can request Cox Communications to produce up to six (6) special event shoots and eight (8) Public Service Announcements (PSAs) per calendar year. On April 19, 2005, City Council adopted Policy No. 40, Programming on Cable Television Government Access Channel 3 (now 35), which stipulates in part that Council will annually approve the topics for all City-sponsored Special Event Shoots and Public Service Announcements provided under the 2000 Cable Television Franchise Agreement. To that end, the Manager of RPV Cable Television, Gabriella Holt, has prepared the list below of proposed topics for 2006 for Council review and approval.

Special Event Shoots

1. Salute to Business (February 2007)
2. Whale of a Day (March 2007)
3. Michael Douglas Golf (May 2007)
4. July 4th City Celebration (July 2006)
5. Educator of the Year (November 2006)
5. One undesignated shoot

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no cost to the City if the designated Cable Franchise Productions are produced by Cox Communications pursuant to the City’s 2000 Cable Television Franchise Agreement.
