Request: A request to overturn the Director’s approval of an Exotic Animal Permit, which allows for the keeping of a Vietnamese Pot Belly Pig within the house or within the confines of the rear yard of the subject property, located at 5824 Ironwood Street.

Action Deadline: None

Recommendation: Adopt P.C. Resolution No. 2009-__, denying the appeal, thus upholding the Director’s decision to conditionally approve the requested Exotic Animal Permit (Case No. ZON2008-00589).

2. MARYMOUNT COLLEGE FACILITIES EXPANSION PROJECT (CASE NO.ZON2003-00317 / CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT NO. 9 - REVISION ‘E’, GRADING PERMIT & VARIANCE): 30800 Palos Verdes Drive East / Marymount College (AM)

Request: A request to modernize the existing campus by demolishing 7 of the 13 existing buildings, expanding 4 of the existing buildings (14,916 square feet), constructing 6 new buildings including a new library, athletic building and two resident hall buildings (121,092 square feet), relocating and reconfiguring the recreational facilities, expanding the parking area (for a total of 463 off-street parking spaces), reconfiguring the entry drive, and constructing various on-site improvements. Additionally, the applicant proposes to conduct 102,000 cubic yards of earth movement (51,000 cubic yards of cut and 51,000 cubic yards of fill) that will be balanced on-site. The proposed Project would occur entirely within the boundaries of the existing 24.57-acre campus. No change to the College’s existing academic operation or student enrollment limit is proposed under the current development application.

Action Deadline: None

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Planning Commission:

1. Review and provide Staff with direction on the project revisions prepared by the College based on the Commission’s direction at its April 14th meeting;

2. Review the Final Appendix A to the project EIR that analyzes the environmental impacts of the project revisions proposed by the College after the Draft EIR was completed and revisions directed by the Commission at its April 14th meeting;

3. Review the Draft Conditions of Approval and provide Staff with input on adding, deleting, or modifying condition language;

4. Review the Draft Resolution for the conditionally approval of the project planning applications, and if deemed acceptable, direct Staff to finalize the Resolution for adoption at the June 9, 2009 meeting; and,

5. Continue the public hearing to June 9, 2009.
