1. HEIGHT VARIATION PERMIT (CASE NO. ZON2010-00331): 6530 La Garita Drive / Magalnic (LM)
     To review the staff report click here

Request: A request to construct a 131 square foot first floor addition and 1,467 square foot second floor addition to the existing 1,807 square foot residence (garage included). The overall height of the residence will measure 25’-0” as measured from the highest ridgeline to the lowest finished grade adjacent to the foundation/slab.

Action Deadline: February 14, 2011

Recommendation: Adopt P.C. Resolution No. 2011-__, thereby denying, without prejudice, Height Variation and Site Plan Review (Case No. ZON2010-00331) for the property located at 6530 La Garita Drive.

2. CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT, VARIANCE AND GRADING PERMIT (CASE NO. ZON2010-00296): 5504 Crestridge Road / Palos Verdes Art Center (LM)
     To review the staff report click here

Request: A request to construct a number of interior and exterior improvements to the existing Palos Verdes Arts Center (PVAC) including:

• An interior remodel of portions of the existing facility including an expansion of the existing kitchen (69 square feet) and gift shop (16 square feet);
• Relocation of the front entrance from the current location along the north side of Building A (Mildred Walker Gallery) to the eastern side of Building A (facing Crenshaw Blvd.);
• Construction of a new 1,652 square foot storage area to Building B (Stewart Gallery), whereby 826 square feet will be subterranean;
• A new 526 square foot kiln located north of Building C (Ceramics Studio) and east of Building A;
• A new 78 square foot trash enclosure located adjacent to the proposed, new kiln;
• A new exterior façade with anodized aluminum panels and a new hipped roof with parapets on Buildings A, B and C;
• A maximum of 227 cubic yards of grading for the new subterranean storage area and new, ancillary retaining walls around the facility;
• Three (3) illuminated, exterior identification signs located on Building A (2 signs) and Building B (1 sign);
• Replacement of the existing wood posts, wood latticework and canvas awning above the patio behind Building A with a new barrel vaulted fabric/canvas awning to encroach 16-‘6” into the required 20’-0” rear yard setback (Variance required);

Action Deadline: February 21, 2011

Recommendation: Adopt P.C. Resolution No. 2011-__, thereby approving a Conditional Use permit, Variance and Grading Permit (Case No. ZON2010-00293) for the property located at 5504 Crestridge Road.

3. GRADING PERMIT (CASE NO. ZON2010-00413): 30148 Cartier Drive / Chan (KF)

Request: A request to allow 3,640 cubic yards of grading for the construction of a new, 4,477-square-foot 2-story single family residence on an upslope lot with an average slope in excess of 35 percent steepness.

Action Deadline: March 12, 2011

Recommendation: Adopt P.C. Resolution No. 2011-__, thereby conditionally approving the requested Grading Permit (Case No. ZON2010-00413).

4. CODE AMENDMENT FOR TEMPORARY SIGN PERMITS (CASE NO. ZON2011-00007): Citywide / City (AH)

Request: A City-initiated request to eliminate Chapter 17.76.050.D.4 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code (RPVMC), which would eliminate the program that currently allows non-commercial organizations to place temporary special event signs or other signs in the City’s right-of-way.

Action Deadline: None

Recommendation: Adopt P.C. Resolution No. 2011-___, recommending that the City Council adopt Ordinance No. ___, a Code Amendment eliminating RPVMC Section 17.76.050.D.4, thereby eliminating the program that allows non-commercial organizations to place temporary special event signs in the City’s rights-of-way.
