Opus Tomorrow

Now Commissioning for 2015

Adam Schoenberg's
String Quartet #2

Opus Tomorrow is the South Bay Chamber Music Society's new music project offering musically adventurous people opportunities to participate in and observe the creation of master works worthy of joining the centuries old chamber music canon. Opus Tomorrow commissions talented younger composers to put their hearts on their sleeves for SBCMS (and future audiences) by way of chamber music, to write what will be the classic trios, quartets and other pieces of tomorrow so that we may hear them today.

ADAM SCHOENBERG (b. 1980) has quickly become one of the best known and most frequently performed American composers of his generation. Full of ?mystery and sensuality? (The New York Times), Schoenberg?s music embraces both warm tonality and gentle chromaticism and has been heralded as ?open, bold, and optimistic? (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

An improviser at heart, Schoenberg?s engaging musical vocabulary has found resonance with audiences throughout the world. By the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, his orchestral suite Finding Rothko will have received over 40 performances and his American Symphony more than 20 performances.

Equally at home in the more intimate world of chamber music, Schoenberg has been commissioned by Opus Tomorrow to write his second string quartet. The South Bay Chamber Music Society will present the world premiere performances of the work on April 24th and 26th, 2015, played by the Fiato Quartet, one of Los Angeles's most exciting and talented young ensembles.
