Opus Tomorrow commissioning new works for chamber ensembles Jalbert &
Composer Pierre Jalbert is the SBCMS choice for the first Opus Tomorrow commission. In addition to winning the Rome Prize and other awards, Pierre has written for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. He teaches composition and theory at Rice University. The Janaki Trio, founded in early 2005, has already won the Coleman and Concert Artists Guild International Competitions. The Trio, made up of violist Katie Kadarauch, violinist Serena McKinney, and cellist Arnold Choi, made its Carnegie Hall debut in early 2007 to rave reviews. The Trio is a SBCMS favorite, with adventurous programming and, to quote the New York Times, "magnificently polished" playing. Opus Tomorrow is the South Bay Chamber Music Society's new project to create important repertoire for chamber players everywhere. A string trio is our first commission, scheduled to premiere in the Fall of 2008. Master composer Pierre Jalbert has agreed to write this piece for the Janaki Trio. |
