Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. Juilliard School Quartet-In-Residence & BIAVA STRING QUARTET
Recently appointed Quartet-in-Residence at the Juilliard School, the Biava Quartet has been awarded numerous honors including top prizes at The Young Concert Artist International Auditions in both 2002 and 2003, the 55th Coleman National Chamber Music Competition, and the 2001 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. It won the 2003 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition and was awarded Third Prize at the 9th London International String Quartet Competition. Members of the Biava Quartet hold advanced degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music, University of Southern California, Yale University, and The Juilliard School. Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. 16th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORGAN DEDICATION First-Prize Winner of the Dallas International Organ Competition
S. WAYNE FOSTER organ Stewart Wayne Foster is the First-Prize Winner of the Dallas International Organ Competition in 1997 and the William Hall Pipe Organ Competition held in San Antonio in 1996. Awarded admission to L'École Normale Supérieure de Musique de Paris, he received the highly-coveted Diplôme de Concertiste by playing a major recital in the Church of St. Augustine in Paris, after which the jury awarded Mr. Foster the Premier Prix de Virtuosité. During his time in Paris, he was Assistant Organist of the American Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Paris. In 1995, Stewart Wayne Foster returned to the United States to pursue a Master's degree in harpsichord and early music at the University of North Texas. KARLA DEVINE organ For the past twenty-three years, Karla Devine has been Director of Music, Organist, and Director of Children's Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach. Karla is a soprano with Camerata Singers of Long Beach. She did her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland, and at the University of Minnesota. Karla is the Artistic Director of the Trinity Lutheran Church Concert Series. Freewill donation |

DAVID CHERWIEN Organist, composer, and choral conductor David Cherwien is currently serving as Director of Music at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, and in 2002 was appointed Music Director for the National Lutheran Choir. He completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance and the Master of Arts degree in theory and composition at the University of Minnesota. Following his undergraduate work he studied for two years at the Berlin Church Music School in Berlin, Germany. He has also studied organ with Christian Baude in Aix-en-Provence, France, and with Paul Manz, Heinrich Fleisher, and Earl Barr. In the European tradition of church organists going back to the time of Bach and before, he composes or improvises much of the music he plays in a worship service. Freewill donation |
