Trinity Lutheran Church hosts three concert series:

  • The Main Concert Series, Sundays at 4:00 p.m.,
     
  • The noontime "Bach's Lunch Recitals" at 12:15 p.m. on first Fridays from September or October through June, and
     
  • "The Previews" at 2:00 p.m. on third or fourth Saturdays from September through June (except December). From January through June, the concerts are repeated the next day on Beverly Hills' "Music In The Mansion" recital series in the the historic Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion.

Pianist Robert Thies, gold-medal winner of the International Prokofiev Competition, violinist Roger Wilkie, concertmaster of the Long Beach Symphony, violist Brian Dembow, Grammy winner with the Angeles Quartet for best chamber music recording of 2001, and cellist Cécilia Tsan, principal of the Long Beach symphony, appear in the debut of their new ensemble.

GREGORY PETERSON organ

Gregory Peterson is organist and Director of Music at the Old South Church in Boston, where he presides over the 124-rank Skinner organ (1921). Dr. Peterson studied at St. Olaf College, earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, holds the Master's degree from Yale and the DMA degree from the University of Iowa, where he studied with Delores Bruch.

For the past sixteen years, Karla Devine has been Organist and Director of Children's Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach. She did her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland, and at the University of Minnesota.

STEVE OLSEN, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, studied with Margaret Rowell in Berkeley, George Neikrug at Boston University, and Gabor Rejto at USC. He studied two summers at the Berkshire Music Festival at Tanglewood, Massachusetts, performing under the batons of Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, and Michael Tilson Thomas. He was principal cellist of the California Youth Symphony, participating in its Australian and European tours, and also performed with the American Youth Symphony, the symphony orchestras of UCLA and UC Berkeley, and the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra. Steve's professional career is Vice Chancellor of Finance for UCLA.

Under the direction of Peter Rutenberg, Cappella, one of Southern California's finest professional choral ensembles, celebrates Memorial Day with a Renaissance program called A Soldier's Tale, featuring Janequin's famed program-chanson La bataille de Marignan, Guerrero's Missa de la batalla escoutez, three "victory" choruses from Carissimi's Jephte, and a selection of madrigals.
