LUCINDA CARVER piano One of Southern California's musical treasures, USC Thornton faculty pianist and conductor of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra Lucinda Carver brings together its concertmaster Aimée Kreston and principal cellist Roger Lebow, and LA Opera's much-loved Suzanna Guzmán in a concert celebrating Mozart's 250th birthday. The concert features a violin sonata and concert arias and duets by Mozart and, after intermission, Schumann's great Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, among the centerpieces of the chamber music repertoire. CHRISTOPH BULL organ, piano, voice with Mezzo-Soprano and live performance painter Born in Mannheim, Germany, Professor Christoph Bull is UCLA's fifth University Organist. He's won first prizes in organ and songwriting competitions, including Jugend Musiziert, Bad Dürkheim Chamber Music Competition, and the Michael-Masser-Competition (UCLA). Christoph studied at University of Church Music Heidelberg, Freiburg Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, University of Southern California, and American Conservatory of Music. In October of 2004 he performed on the new Glatter-Götz-Rosales organ at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In February of 2005 he accompanied the silent movie "The General" (Buster Keaton), and in May he presented his most recent edition of "organica," a collaboration with live performance painter Norton Wisdom. KARLA DEVINE organ For the past twenty years, Karla Devine has been Organist and Director of Children's Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach. Karla is a soprano with Camerata Singers of Long Beach and is the President of the organization. She did her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland, and at the University of Minnesota. Karla is the Artistic Director of the Trinity Lutheran Church Concert Series. Freewill donation |

ARNOLD CHOI cello Founded at the Colburn School in February 2005, the Janaki Trio is arguably today's fastest-rising young ensemble. In just a year since its founding, the Janaki was among the winners of the "Sundays At Two" auditions in Beverly Hills, Grand Prize winner at the 59th Annual Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, and winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in New York City, where it encored its winning final-round program in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. Individually, its members study with Southern California's premier teachers: violinist Serena McKinney with Robert Lipsett, violist Katie Kadarauch with Paul Coletti, and cellist Arnold Choi with Ronald Leonard, and perform in the Colburn Orchestra under the baton of Yehuda Gilad. Dr. Michael Burkhardt is known for his creative hymn improvisations and his work with children. He is in frequent demand as a choral and organ clinician and leader of hymn festivals. Dr. Burkhardt is a graduate of Carthage College and Southern Methodist University. He earned the DMA degree in organ performance at Arizona State University. His organ, choral and handbell compositions are published by MorningStar Music. Michael Burkhardt is currently on the faculty at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Freewill donation |
